Salsa Loca Fundraiser 22.02.2012
Following the Three Peaks Challenge earlier in the month, our second Leeds RAG fundraiser for Honduras got underway on Wednesday 22nd February. The evening named, Salsa Loca, incorporated music and dancing as well as DJ sets (Latin and jazz music included) at Seven Bar in Leeds.
Samuel Moore, a talented flamenco guitarist from Leeds College of Music, lit the atmosphere as the crowd filtered into the trendy venue around 9 o’clock, after three hours of Charlie looking stressed out to the max! Paddy and Dan (to limited success) manned the donations buckets on the door, as it was a free event with donations accepted; Anna took over and had more luck, doubtlessly more charming, as the buckets began to rattle and get heavier.
Little My, a covers three piece band of Leeds University students, began to play and entertain the punters, and the upstairs of the venue was opened around half ten as there was simply no space left downstairs! Upstairs the band began and played a great set of jazz, swing and big band classics whilst Colombian DJ William Parce set the tempo going downstairs with some salsa, meringue, reggaeton and other forms of Latin American music.
Dancers from DanceSport Society at Leeds University also kindly agreed to come along, performing for the entranced audience, before teaching them a few moves of their own. William’s set began, and the drinks continue to flow, and a few more edged towards the dance floor to try their hand at salsa dancing. Meanwhile the Jazz band finished up their set, but to the delight of the audience carried on with a number of well know hits (including a few great Rat Pack covers!).
Most people stayed and danced the night away into the early hours. Overall a fantastic £186.29 was donated towards the project! The night was a lot of fun and managed to raise some cash for charity, who could complain?!
